About our Dietitians

Amanda O'Brien (Burton) obtained a Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from Central Michigan University in 2012, and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry/Dietetics from Memorial University in 2005. She completed her dietitian internship training from ARAMARK Canada Ltd, and during this time was awarded the Dietitians of Canada Judy Van Tilburg Memorial Bursary.

Since becoming a dietitian, she has worked and continues to work in urban and rural environments across Newfoundland and Labrador. Amanda has a broad range of experience in many clinical, community and food service nutrition areas. She has aided all ages of clients with diet and nutrition information for many conditions including weight loss, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, irritable bowel syndrome and more. Currently Amanda does counselling and consulting with Recipe for Health and authors a weekly column entitled, 'On Your Plate', in The Telegram Monday newspaper.

Amanda is regularly interviewed for her nutrition expertise in print, radio and tv media, and is a provincial media representative for Dietitians of Canada national nutrition months 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Amanda actively volunteers within the community and is a board member with the Community Food Sharing Association. In 2012 she was awarded the Northwest Rotary Aidan Maloney Emerging Professional Award in St. John's, NL. Amanda was also recognized as the 2013 Youth Entrepreneur of the Year by NLOWE.
